About ABNORMAL

Two perspectives.
One standard.

ABNORMAL is the work of two people, Ricky Randolph Carr and Caitlin Roque, who built a financial protection practice around the kind of guidance they wished their own families had received. Based in Sacramento, CA, serving families and professionals across all 50 states with virtual consultations available.

The founders

Two perspectives. One standard.

Ricky and Caitlin came to this work from different places, professional practice on one side, lived family experience on the other. Together, they built ABNORMAL to be what neither of them could have built alone.

Ricky & Caitlin

Built by two.
Held to one standard.

A licensed practice and a lived family experience, brought together into one standard of care.

Ricky Randolph Carr

The professional practice.

Ricky is a licensed life insurance professional based in Sacramento, CA. His work is built around the conversations he kept seeing go wrong. Capable people making permanent financial decisions under pressure, with jargon in the way and urgency crowding out understanding.

He built his practice around the opposite. The pace is yours. The language is plain. The recommendation is yours to accept, change, or walk away from, without anyone leaning on you.

Caitlin Roque

The lived understanding.

Caitlin's perspective on this work did not start with a product. It started with a family. Her father was a recipient of living benefits, and through his experience she and her family saw, up close, what it means when a serious health event reshapes a family's finances and planning needs.

She brought roughly fifteen years of connection to the financial services industry through her father's career, and about eight years of her own experience, into the founding of ABNORMAL. The point was never to sell a product. The point was to give families the kind of clear, patient guidance her own family had to find on its own.

What we stand for

Our mission & values

Three principles guide every conversation, every recommendation, and every decision we make on your behalf.

Honesty, always

If something isn't right for you, we will say so, even if it means we do not get the business. Our only incentive is your best outcome.

Clarity, every time

Plain language, complete answers, no jargon. You leave every conversation understanding exactly where you stand and what your options are.

Pressure, never

We never rush a single decision. The pace is yours, the timeline is yours, and the choice is always entirely yours to make.

Our approach

How we work with you

We do not run a one-size-fits-all script. Every client is different, so every engagement is built around your specific situation, your comfort level, and your goals.

  • We listen first, before recommending anything
  • We explain every option in plain, jargon-free language
  • We give you time to think, every time
  • We answer every question, no matter how small
  • We make sure you understand before any decision is made
